| Milford, CT – March 1, 2006 - New Standard Institute, Inc. has announced the formation of a scholarship through the Milford (CT) Chamber of Commerce. This grant is designed to assist a graduating senior from Platt Regional Vocation Technical School in pursuit of a degree in
engineering.
The Milford Chamber of Commerce will administer the grant, as part of the Chamber's annual scholarship program. This program distributes more than 20 grants based on financial need, academic achievements, career goals, and community service. The Scholarship Application is available at the Chamber of Commerce website.
“I am pleased to be able to join the Chamber in assisting students from Platt to continue their training and education," said Michael V. Brown, President of New Standard Institute. "We are lucky to have a Tech School in our city, with all
the skills of these students so nearby. We just want to acknowledge their hard work and offer encouragement as they move forward in their careers."
Brown says he became interested in Platt Tech after meeting Assistant Principal David D'Aniello through the Milford Chamber of Commerce Mini-Grant program. "Tessa Marquis, our Project Coordinator, sat with Dave on the student mini-grant committee in
2004 and became enthusiastic about the teachers and students at Platt. Kathy Alagno [President and CEO of the Milford Chamber of Commerce] opened up the opportunity of a scholarship and assisted us in setting it up."
The first scholarship recepient will be selected in April 2006, and presented with the grant at the Annual State of the City Luncheon in May 2006. The luncheon event is hosted by the Milford Chamber of Commerce and attended by the Mayor of Milford,
Chamber of Commerce Board members, scholarship recipients and their families. |
