Two Programs Vie for Awards

Milfrod, CT – November 15, 2009 - Two of New Standard Institute’s training programs for maintenance workers have been chosen as Finalists in Plant Engineering Magazine’s 2009 Product of the Year competition.

Confined space accidents injure or take the lives of thousands of workers each year. Silos, ceilings, vaults, tanks and other vessels present specific hazards to workers. Theses hazards must be recognized, mitigated and/or eliminated. It's not just the right thing to do, it's also the law.
Electric circuit protection is essential to protect wiring, equipment, and most importantly, personnel. As a matter of fact, proper selection and application of circuit protection is mandated by law. Fuses, circuit breakers and overloads are often the last resort protection. Choosing the correct device, applying the device properly, and guaranteeing that routine maintenance is conducted will ensure the protection is there when needed.

The development team for these training programs, led by Senior Software Engineer Michael Konopka, consisted of Kieran Sobel, Cristian Hidalgo, Dave Dacruz, Dan Guzman, and Ben Wurtmann, with voice over narration by Jim Matus.

The 22nd Annual Plant Engineering Product of the Year awards competition is divided into 17 categories. Eligible products were reviewed by a panel of plant management experts, who selected 125 finalists. The next part of the process will be for the magazine’s subscribers to vote for their choice of products in each category.

New Standard Institute has been honored in the past with awards from Plant Engineering Magazine in 2006, 2007, and 2008 and received the competition's highest honor in 2005 as Product of the Year Grand Award Winner for the training program Machine Vibration Basics.

From Plant Engineering Magazine:

“Voting for the 2009 Product of the Year will begin November 15 and continue through December 15. Plant Engineering readers who have buy-specify responsibilities as identified in their subscription information to us will be the ONLY people eligible to vote for Product of the Year. We take great pains each year to ensure only qualified voters select Product of the Year award winners."
Winners of his competition will be notified in January 2010. Awards will be presented at Plant Engineering Magazine's 2010 Manufacturing/Automation Summit in Chicago next March.
